Eleanor Aims to strengthen wine brands also directly on the fields. Masterclass are periodically held in collaboration with Chateaux and Premium Estates together with Sommeliers from Michelin * Restaurants as well as Wine professionals in and around Amsterdam.

We are pleased to have organised a Masterclass inviting Mr Dominic Thranum, Export Manager of Il Borro Relais & Chateaux, and Sommeliers from Michelin * restaurants in and around Amsterdam at Hotel De L’Europe 5*.

During the presentation, we discovered the seven-hundred hectares organic estate of Il Borro Relais & Chateau surrounding a medieval village, located in the Upper Val d’Arno, Tuscany, Central Italy.

The vines of Il Borro grow on the Val D’Arno hills at the foot of the Pratomagno mountains, a perfect place with a unique soil. Il Borro produces different grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Each grape finds its ideal terroir along the land of the estate.

Il Borro follows the rules of organic production thanks to the organic activities within its vineyards.

Mr Dominic Thranum fascinated us by leading a tasting of 6 excellent wines:

I. Petruna Anfora IGT Toscana 2017:

100% Sangiovese. Large terracotta amphora are used for the fermentation. The wine is then matured in clay amphora for 12 months. This special winemaking creates a delicate, complex bouquet with notes of ripe red fruit and distinctive aromas from ageing in clay amphora.

II. Il Borro IGT Toscana Rosso 2015:

50 % Merlot, 35 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 % Syrah,  this wine is remarkable for its full and intense bouquet, and concentrated notes of underbrush and spicy notes.
Il Borro IGT Toscana Rosso 2015, 96 points Wine Advocate, immediately stood out with its intense and concentrated bouquet, soft and greatly integrated tannins, and notes of spice.

III. Bolle di Borro Classic Method Rosè 2012:

100% Sangiovese, has the particularity to be matured on its lees for 60 months, which gives a creamy texture and juicy sour note to the wine.

IV. Lamelle, IGT Toscana 2018:

100 % Chardonnay, this wine is fermented and matured in stainless-steel tanks to preserve its freshness and tropical fruity aromas with a hint of minerality.

V. Polissena IGT Toscana 2016:

100% Sangiovese, it displays an intense bouquet with notes of underbrush and hints of red fruits. This wine has a deep ruby-red color with delicate hints of vanilla due to its 12-month maturation in French oak.

VI. Alessandro dal Borro IGT Toscana 2012:

100% Syrah, this wine is elegant, rich in black and red fruits with spicy notes of green and black pepper and a hint of balsamic.

It was truly a fantastic discovery, which lit the attendees’ enthusiasm to add these bottles to their Michelin * restaurants wine list!
